• Newspaper cutting of article by ‘Dogliente’ re the need for the preservation of Thomastown Castle, Fr. Mathew’s birthplace. A memorandum attached to the cutting reads: ‘Our representative was informed that as far back as 1916 the Superiors of the Capuchin Order were very concerned about the condition of the historic house which through neglect was fast going into a state of ruin. To preserve the house they were prepared, with the sanction of their higher Superiors, to take over the property, but failed to obtain [the] necessary ecclesiastical authority to do so’.
